Scottie Scheffler successfully defended his Hero World Championship title after finishing six shots ahead of South Korea’s Tom Kim after the final round at Albany Golf Club.
Scheffler birdied three of the first four holes and immediately regained the overnight lead over partner Justin Thomas, two clear himself.
From there, the world No. 1 never looked back and kept his foot on the gas pedal, firing his best round of the day in a nine-under par 63 to win.
“Very pleased,” Scheffler said. “I did some really good things on the course today. It feels good to get a break and come back and continue to play some really solid golf.”
Scheffler’s scintillating round saw him finish the tournament at 25 under and claim his eighth tournament victory of 2024 in addition to Olympic gold at the Paris Olympics.
“I think it’s been a great and fun year,” Scheffler said. “I’ve been lucky enough to get some wins off some really good golf. It’s been another week where I’ve played really hard and I’ve been able to see some great results from that.
“I’m very grateful for the season and the wins, but at the end of the day I’m looking forward to doing things other than golf when I go home.
“I like living my life and enjoying my time at home. I’ve had some time to think, but I don’t know how to rate it. It’s just been pretty surreal, a lot of fun, and I’m just really grateful.”
South Korea’s Tom Kim finished 19th overall and Thomas finished third in 18th.
“It’s just disappointing,” said the two-time major winner. “I’d like to give Scotty a little more heat on the back nine.
“You know, I felt like I got a couple of bad breaks in three, the wind was completely out or turned five. But I mean, you know, obviously I can’t expect good things to happen. Scottie’s one lead and the market he only scores one goal a day.”
Akshay Bhatia tied for fourth on 14th, ahead of US Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley in fifth, one shot further back – while Ludwig Aberg carded a 67th to become the best European in the event on 12th. under par.
