The 100 Black Men of West Alabama held a mentoring summit at the Tuscaloosa Career Technology Academy to bring mentoring awareness to the community. The goal of the event is to bring agencies together to expose them to mentoring.
These agencies learned tips on properly mentoring and reaching out to the younger generation. The 100 Black Men of West Alabama mentors have to complete curriculum training before becoming a mentor.
Organizers believe mentoring is not something you do for the moment, but is a lifetime achievement.
“Well, the ultimate goal is to understand mentoring is not just a cycle. It’s a lifetime,” said Eric Prewitt, president of 100 Black Men of West Alabama. “No one in life gets anywhere without someone helping them. And it’s our goal to make sure to make those connections. Where people can make it in life and make the right choices in life.”
Prewitt also said the goal is to reach all generations to spread mentoring awareness. The group is planning future events to get the community involved.
