Most of Alabama continues to see more clouds than sun as wrap-around moisture behind the low stretches down into the South Alabama.
DRIER DAY: Rain has pushed out of Alabama early this morning; we will be dry through early afternoon with a gusty west wind; a wind advisory remains in effect for much of the state. Gradient winds won’t be a strong as yesterday, but gusts to 30 mph are very possible.
Numerous wildfires are ongoing across the state, caused by lightning strikes and downed powerlines. Strong winds are not helping, but the rain tonight will allow fire crews to gain more control.
WINDY: As advertised, gradient winds have ramped up across Alabama; gusts are in the 30-40 mph range for most communities. Montgomery reports a gust to 44 mph at mid-afternoon. We have a mix of sun and clouds, but a line of showers and storms will move into West Alabama by 5-6 p.m.
So, stay weather aware throughout the day and go over your safety plan. Make sure those safety kits have been restocked, and your weather radio is plugged in and has fresh batteries.
New tornado watch issued for large part of Mississippi up to the AL/MS state line. Additional watches likely further east later this afternoon.
A line of severe storms will sweep across Alabama this evening and overnight, bringing a threat of damaging winds and a few spin up tornadoes. There is a danger of more significant tornadoes over southwestern Alabama, south of a line from Livingston to Linden to Beatrice to Evergreen.
