MACON, Ga. (WGXA) — 200 years of African American business in Middle Georgia… that was the theme of the 12th celebration publication of Macon’s Black Pages. Dozens of Maconites filled the Tubman museum for The Black Pages’s newest publication but as the publisher says, its more than just words on a page.

“This is a vehicle to reach the African American community and to uplift the African American community economically,” said Alex Habersham, Publisher of the Macon Middle Georgia Black Pages

Alex Habersham, 32 years ago wanted to promote a better showcase of the business of African Americans in our community.

“And what better way to do that with a directory of African American business throughout Central Georgia,” said Habersham

A directory that uplifts not only businesses and their owners but the entire community and economy as Habersham notes. But it also explores every avenue…

“The book features and highlights ups and downs and acrosses of Black business across 200 years in Central Georgia,” said Habersham

And Habersham says its especially important with the de-emphasizing of history…

“I think its important that somebody takes the responsibility of capturing the past and present in an effort to highlight what we need to do to make it a better future,” said Habersham.

But above all the Black Pages mission is to reach every body, Habersham explained that the Black Page is the place for finding a service or product from an African American business but…

“This is not separatism! I think it benefits the entire community when Black business do well. Because that will help expand the economy for everybody,” said Habersham.
