Louisville is the unofficial backbone of Kentucky, being that it’s the largest city in the state. Louisville is a city full of promise, potential, and burgeoning success amongst the black community.

Last February, Louisville launched a 10-week program dedicated to helping local food entrepreneurs open their business. As the entire city begins to get on board with helping black businesses thrive, here’s a quick rundown on how you can spend your dollar within Louisville’s black community.

Get Your Boujie Biscuit.

Grab the best biscuits in town at this multi-cuisine restaurant with Caribbean influences, like the new mouthwatering Curry flavored or seafood biscuits, served alongside freshly brewed tea.  There’s also they Brooklyn Biscuit and the Caribbean Sea biscuit with lobster, shrimp, and crab in a mild bisque.

Tour the Muhammad Ali Center.

The Muhammad Ali Center offers thrilling exhibits, video footage of his fights, and other interactive exhibits. Louisville’s Music Row offers a bundle deal including access to six other popular attractions in the Downtown area.

Visit the The Kentucky Center for African American Heritage.

Preserving the history of African Americans in Kentucky, the center shares stories about our accomplishments, heritage, history and more through unique exhibits, and leveraging programs and activities and encourages an appreciation for African American culture.

Savor The Flavor of Louisville

Make your reservation now at this trendy, chic restaurant in the Highlands. Owner Cyndy Joyner takes traditional Caribbean, Creole, and other soul food cuisines to create her own authentic culinary experience. Check their Facebook for hours, as they are only open Wednesday- Sunday.

Laugh at Frank’s and Niddy’s Comedy Club

Comedian Rico Lovelace is amongst the few comedians that have performed at the first and only black-owned music and comedy club. The club also hosts open mics and Saturday night R&B and comedy improv sets.
