COVINGTON, Ky. (WKRC) – You can support Black-owned small businesses by shopping local.
As part of Black History Month, the Kenton County Public Library Covington Branch is hosting a Black-owned business expo.
2025 was the second year for the expo, which included 13 businesses based in the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area.
Customers can purchase sustainable clothing, handmade gifts, jewelry, and find resources for financial literacy.
According to an updated study from the University of Cincinnati last fall, Black-owned businesses are steadily increasing in the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area, supporting nearly $3 billion in economic activity, and supporting more than 16,000 jobs. This is up from a little more than $1 billion in economic activity when the survey began in 2021.
Large Events Programmer Diamond Garrett says it’s more important than ever to continue supporting small.
“Especially with things struggling – so many big businesses and online shopping – so many small businesses get bogged down. Making sure we’re shopping small is really important,” said Garrett.
The expo is in the Truist Room at the Covington Branch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, February 22.
