Scores of Nipsey Hussle fans gathered Sunday evening for an impromptu memorial at his Marathon Clothing business in South Los Angeles, where the rapper was gunned down just hours earlier.

At least 100 people crowded the sidewalk adjacent to the clothing company and retail lot owned by Hussle, where he was fatally shot and where two others were wounded at about 3:20 p.m. As the sun set on the corner of Crenshaw Boulevard and Slauson Avenue, mourners wiped tears from their eyes and watched as homicide investigators searched the area for clues.
Some in attendance reminisced on Hussle’s talent as a performer. Others saw his work in the community as a segue for broader conversations about civil rights and empowering the black community.
“[Hussle] was about black entrepreneurship,” said Kenneth Hicks 23, a nearby resident and fan. “Get money for real, that’s what he was trying to teach people.”
“This is more than just another dead rapper,” said Sean Borrard, a longtime fan who said he was nearly brought to tears when he heard the news that Nipsey Hussle had died. “In the rap world, he was a leader.” @ladailynews@ocregister
