The annual Black State Fair began on Aug. 25 in Minneapolis and is celebrating five years of highlighting Black businesses. Destinee Shelby, a Minneapolis-based entrepreneur, founded the fair in 2020 to support and strengthen Black businesses in the wake of the civil unrest following George Floyd’s murder.
Renowned for its vibrant display of culture and community spirit, the fair highlights the strength of the Black entrepreneurial spirit. Attendees can explore over 50 Black-owned businesses offering a variety of products.
This year’s food offerings include jerk chicken tacos, yams, strawberry cornbread muffins, oxtails, and more. The events also feature live music, topical panel discussions, and a kids’ zone with arcade buses.
The Black State Fair runs until Aug. 31, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at The Cabooze, 913 Cedar Ave., in Minneapolis. Tickets are $10. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.Blackstatefair.org.
