MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Miss Black Georgia USA Pageant aims to unite and promote empowerment for young women.
Executive Director of the Miss Black Georgia USA Pageant, Alexandria Van Dyke, says this pageant began about 35 years ago.
Van Dyke says this pageant is “a platform for black women to be able to compete and be authentically and genuinely themselves”.
Miss Black Georgia USA Talented Teen, McKenzie Porter, says her platform is ‘Empowering Minds through Children’s Books’. Porter says she wants to elevate kids and become early learners with books.
Miss Black Georgia USA, Torree Theodore, says her platform is ‘Open doors and Unlock Potential’. Theodore says she hopes to advocate for accessibility to educational resources and developmental opportunities. Theodore also wants to place an emphasis on the importance of youth literacy and proficiency.
Theodore says a big part of the mission of the Miss Black Georgia USA Pageant is to empower and celebrate black women.
