Jackson, Mississippi is known as ‘The City of Soul’ because
of its perseverance and triumphant spirit. From its vibrant people to its
lively music and art scenes, Jackson is a historical city worth checking out. Here’s
how to spend a day supporting local black-owned businesses.

Morning

Start your day with brunch at Della
B’s
for a homemade pancake breakfast. Customers keep coming back for
the great food and friendly staff that bring southern hospitality and charm.

Spa Innovations is a great place to head next and indulge in some pampering. Check out their women of color skin treatment that uses products formulated to address the unique concerns and challenges when it comes to skincare for women of color.

Afternoon

Bully’s
Soul Food
is home to some of the best southern cooking in Mississippi. Expect
to find ham hocks, smothered oxtails, fried catfish, and more on the menu that
also offers daily lunch specials for just $6.50. Many customers boast that this
35-year-old neighborhood staple “feels like home”.

Spend the afternoon at Foot Print Farms. Foot Print Farms is the largest urban farm in the state of Mississippi started my local icon Cindy Ayers Elliott. The 68-acre farm is home to specialty crops and livestock with a focus on agri-tourism for community development in the City of Jackson. The farm is open daily to walk the grounds and buy some fresh produce.

Evening

Head to Johnny T’s Bistro and Blues for dinner and live music. Taking inspiration from around the south, many of the dishes on their menu are designed for sharing like their homemade cheese balls, crab claws, and chicken strips.

Upstairs from Johnny T’s is the sultry Ultra Lounge 540, one of downtown Jackson’s premier entertainment venues.  Enjoy live music and entertainment throughout the week or reserve the space for a special event.
