The Jefferson City Fire Department responded to a report of a duplex on fire on Bertha Street at 8:39 p.m. Tuesday, according to a news release.
Department officials report that the first crew arrived and reported a significant amount of fire coming from the garage in one apartment of a duplex. The crews quickly knocked down the fire in the garage, then entered the residence to continue battling the fire.
The fire was under control within 30 minutes, and firefighters remained on the scene to complete an investigation and completely extinguish the fire, according to the release.
While the release was unclear regarding injuries directly caused by the fire, it did state Cole County EMS transported one person from the adjacent apartment.
Crews reported significant fire damage to the garage and part of the residential area of one apartment of the duplex. The adjacent apartment had minor smoke damage but was still inhabitable.
Fire investigators said the cause was determined to be a vehicle fire located in the garage that spread to the structure. The cause of the vehicle fire is undetermined.
