The first ever Black Culture Festival was held at Genesee Valley Park, following social distancing guidelines.
Organizers call it a chance to celebrate Black culture in America and help support Black businesses.
“We wanted to focus on entrepreneurship and highlight the positive things in the Black community, innovation, culture as a whole, fashion, music, art, all those things that get thrown in the back that people don’t think about when they think about Black culture,” Co-Organizer Mike Cook said.
Part of the event was a lemonade stand that’s set up shop around town this summer. The trio of kids running “Sweet Spot Cafe” say they’ve managed to raise about $1,000 selling lemonade and cookies.
“We thought it’d be a good activity over the summer to do and keep us occupied with all the stuff going on,” Alycia Rickman from Sweet Spot Cafe said.
They tell Spectrum News that business is going so well, they’d like to open an actual shop.
