Riverhead’s first recreational cannabis dispensary has announced its grand opening on Black Friday.
Strain Stars will open its doors at 1871 Old Country Road, Riverhead on Nov. 29, immediately after a 12 noon ribbon-cutting.
The 14,000-square-foot store, located on the corner of Old Country Road and Kroemer Avenue, is the second Strain Stars store on Long Island. The company opened Long Island’s first legal cannabis dispensary in Farmingdale in July 2023 and says its more than $100 million in sales of cannabis products since then makes it the highest-performing dispensary in North America over that period.
The second location in Riverhead makes Strain Stars Long Island’s first cannabis dispensary chain.
Its products include flower, concentrates, edibles, topicals, vaporizers and accessories, according to the company website.
“It’s been an incredible whirlwind ride since we first opened on that hot summer day in 2023,” said Jasmin Kaur, CFO of Strain Stars in a press release yesterday announcing the grand opening. “That morning, our family never imagined we were launching America’s #1 legal cannabis dispensary, we just wanted to do right by our neighbors and customers on Long Island,” he said.
“Opening a second location, the first dispensary in Riverhead, will make it easier for many customers to get their favorite cannabis products. But this isn’t just about selling cannabis, it’s about building community, giving back to our community,” Kaur said.
Strain Stars has announced an endowed scholarship to provide financial assistance to current and prospective Farmingdale State College students who have incarcerated parents.
“We are immigrants and family business, and we know education is the key to success in this nation, which is why we are giving back, making sure children who saw their parents serve time in jail will have the opportunity to get a college degree with the Strain Stars New Hour Scholarship Program with Farmingdale State College,” Kaur said.
The public is invited to attend the ribbon-cutting and grand opening. To celebrate the grand opening, Strain Stars will offer free gift bags to the first 100 customers, and will host displays from some of New York’s most popular brands to highlight and giveaway products, according to the press release.
The Strain Stars store is located on the south side of Old Country Road in Riverhead, just east of Tanger Outlets on the corner of Kroemer Avenue. The parking lot is accessible by an entrance from the eastbound lane of Old Country Road, and from an entrance on Kroemer Avenue.
Riverhead’s second recreational cannabis dispensary, Beleaf, is slated to open this fall in Calverton Commons at 4462 Middle Country Road in Calverton.
Editor’s note: Beleaf, the dispensary in Calverton, opened for business after the original publication of this article, on Nov. 23, according to the company’s website.
