Piano lesson, sing sing, and: Nickel boys The big winners of the 2024 African American Film Critics Association Awards were announced recently.
The association mainly concentrates On films about the black experience.
His top 10 movies of 2024 included the aforementioned trio, as well as box office hits that had black leads such as: evil and: Gladiator II. Independent features such as: Dahomy and: Showing forgiveness also made the cut.
Colman Domingo was recognized in the best actor category Sing Sing! and Marian Jean-Baptiste won the best actress award Hard truths. Daniel Deadweiler, who received high praise for his performance Piano lessonwon Best Supporting Actress.
There was a tie in the Best Documentary category Daughters and: Dahomey.
Best Picture and Best Director went to Ramel Ross Nickel boysbased on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Colson Whitehead. Best ensemble went to the cast Piano lessonstarring John David Washington and Samuel L. Jackson next to Deadwyler.
Andra Day also secured a Best Song win for the featured “Bricks.” Showing forgiveness.
More than 100 AAFCA members selected the winners.AAFCA president and co-founder Jill Robertson called the selection a “defining year for cinema.”
“We’re proud to honor this year’s filmmakers and talent whose work continues to expand the scope of humanity on screen,” said Robertson. they amplify the voices and perspectives that deserve to be heard, and we look forward to celebrating their lasting impact.”
Winners will be announced in person at an official ceremony on February 19. Among the honorees, Malcolm Washington will receive the Emerging Director Award. Piano lesson and Nicole Avant will take home the Beacon Award.Ross will receive the Spotlight Award.
