J-Kwon won’t get a physical Grammy if he takes Shabuzz home for “A Bar Song (Tipsy).”
Jay Kwon’s Grammy nomination for Shabuzzi’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” was snubbed after The Recording Academy. has changed the rules of his song sample.
If Shabuzzi wins Grammy Awards in the “Song of the Year” or “Best Country Song” categories, then the authors of “Tipsy” will only get certificates, not Grammy trophies, Advertising panel reports. On December 12, the Recording Academy adopted new rules stating that only “publishers and songwriters of selected or interpolated material” are eligible for certificates.
“Each year, the Recording Academy makes adjustments to the list of nominations as necessary after the list is first published,” the Academy announced on the Grammy Awards Update Center. were not in the original submission, among other revisions.”
Rapper Jay-Kwon (Jarrell C Jones) co-wrote the radio hit “Tipsy” with Joe Kent and Mark Williams in 2004, which Shabuzz later included on his hit “A Bar Song” (Tipsy). While Shabuzzi will get a Grammy if his song wins, the writers won’t.
Shaboozey’s song features the lines “One, here comes two to three” and “Everybody at the Bar gettin’ Tipsy,” original lyrics borrowed from J’Kwon’s “Tipsy.” The pair took the stage together in June During the BET Awards, where Shabuzzi introduced the rapper as his surprise guest, “BET, make some noise just for Mr. Tipsy St. Louis, J-Kwon.”
It would be the first Grammy for JKwon, who? accepted to good money from the country remake earlier this year.
“I got a crazy percentage… Let’s put it this way. we did it together and I’m proud of him,” she said in April, when the song entered the Hot 100 at No. 36.
