The decision to choose Trump as Time’s Person of the Year has received a strong response.
As part of his Person of the Year interview Time magazinePresident-elect Donald Trump said he thinks the biggest mistake Vice President Kamala Harris made in the 2024 presidential election was agreeing to face him first.

“I think when he wasn’t talking to anybody, it shone a light on him.” Trump said. “You know, he didn’t do anything. And people were saying, “Is there something wrong with him?”
He continued, somewhat contradicting himself. In other words, if he did the same interviews, but (did) 15 more interviews, you wouldn’t really notice that much.”
He added: “He was putting so much emphasis on interviews. Someone thought something was wrong, and I don’t think he ever recovered from that.”
In the newspaper’s explanation of why Trump was elected. The time editor Sam Jacobs stated that it was not a difficult choice for the magazine.
“Today we are witnessing a resurgence of populism, a widening distrust of the institutions that defined the past century, and an eroding belief that liberal values will lead to a better life for the majority of people. Trump is both the agent and the beneficiary,” Jacobs wrote. “For making a comeback of historic proportions, driving a once-in-a-generation political realignment, reshaping the American presidency and changing America’s role in the world, Donald Trump is Time’s 2024 Person of the Year.”
The decision to select Trump as Person of the Year drew criticism from several prominent figures, as well as people on social media.
By: The HillFormer CNN anchor Don Lemon criticized Trump’s election as the magazine’s Person of the Year.
“They could do this to someone who actually stood up for democracy, who stands up for democracy in the country,” Lemon said on his podcast, “The Don Lemon Show.” “Just because you’re elected president of the United States doesn’t mean you should you will be the person of the year”.
