The body of Taheli Payton, 22, was found near a park after she had not been seen for several weeks.
After being missing for several weeks, a South Carolina the woman was found dead North Carolina.
By: WSOC TVIt was the body of 22-year-old Tahalie Payton has been found Monday, Dec. 16, near the park. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department confirmed that the body was found near Charlotte. She was last seen on Nov. 20.
Peyton’s family told the media that she went to Charlotte with a friend to celebrate her birthday. The couple reportedly got into an argument at the Microtel Inn & Suites in North Charlotte, and he left the next day without her.Several local workers said they saw him that night.
Emily Stewart, a cookie shop employee, witnessed the interaction.She said Peyton entered the store around 5 or 6 that evening looking for help.
“I don’t know, it’s just wild, it’s wild. It was very strange how he went in a couple of times,” Stewart said.
“He just asked to use my phone and I just handed it to him. He said his boyfriend kicked him out of the car. He was found with another girl and he needed a ride.”
He said the young woman called her mother and returned to the store twice to use the phone.
“It turns out he also texted a friend on my phone. I think he said I’m going to sleep outside tonight and I apologize for everything,” Stewart said.
Employees also saw Peyton at nearby Arby’s and Trader Joe’s; according to her family, she never heard from him.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said the cause of death has not yet been determined, but is being treated as a homicide investigation.
The NC Beat: reported last month that Peyton’s boyfriend, Sethoby Armstrong, 25, was was arrested for DUI and failing to stop for blue lights, fleeing police who tried to stop him.
