Newsom launched his new podcast This is Gavin Newsom On Thursday. The publishing line is to discuss pressing issues with figures that would normally disagree.
“It’s time to answer the hard questions and be open to criticism and debate without hardening -or dehumanize the others,” the podcast description is called in Spotify. “I will do it only in my new podcast, inviting people whom I do not agree with talking about the most wide -threatening problems of the day and inviting listeners from all over the country to unite in conversation.”
Newsom invited the conservative figure Charlie Kirk for the debut episode.
“I think it is an equity problem. I completely agree with you,” he said about women and transgender girls competing in the women’s category in sports BBC. “It is a subject of equity, it is deeply unfair. We must have this. We must recognize it.”
“Revere Sports,” added Newsom. “Therefore, the subject of equity is completely legitimate.”
The governor of California also recognized the existing bias towards the transgender community and the unique challenges they have.
“There is also humility and grace that these poor people are more likely to suicide, have anxiety and depression, and the way people speak in vulnerable communities is a problem that I also have very difficult,” he said. “So, both things I can have in hand.”
Some Democrats have condemned Newsom’s comments.
“We were definitely out of duty and woke up incredibly ill and upset to see that someone who has been an ally of our community used this language,” said Chris Ward, a democratic assembly and President of the LGBTQ Legislative Caucus in California. Capradio.
“Transgender children, like any other student, although a very small part of the population deserve the opportunity to benefit from what sports have to offer,” he added.
Others lined up with Newsom’s comments.
“The true story is that we have seen in the opinion survey after the opinion survey that most of the country (and the Democrats!) Agree with this idea,” said Massachusetts’ democratic representative, Seth Moulton Political. “They are becoming more and more willing to say what they have probably always thought, and that’s good.”
A ballot Made by The New York Times and Ipsos, in January, 94% of Republicans and 67% of Democrats say that transgender athletes should not be able to participate in female sports.
The state California law allows transgender athletes to participate in sports that coincide with their gender identity, by Capradio. The law coincides with the past efforts of Newsom in favor of the LGBTQ+community. In 2004, he ordered the Secretary of the City of San Francisco to provide marriage licenses in the same sex, according to the BBC. He recently took steps to protect the history of LGBTQ+ in schools, and banned school districts to require staff to notify families if their child changed their gender identity.
