What are the demands Trump tries to impose on Harvard?
According to News NBCHarvard President Alan M. Garber sent an email to the community and revealed that the university received “a list of updated and extended demands from Trump. The list includes 10 demands, according to the school, and urges the university to fulfill if he wants to” maintain the financial relationship with the federal government. ”
Garber said that the Trump administration requires Harvard to restrict international students who are “hostile to North -American values and institutions. Trump’s administration, which claims that he cracks in anti -Semitism on the university campus, threatens with audit schools that “feed anti -Semitic harassment or reflect ideological capture”, according to NBC News.
The administration is also ordering Harvard to close all the programs and initiatives DEI. According to demand, Harvard must exchange DEI programs for “merit -based” policies.
What is Harvard’s response to Trump’s demands?
Garber continues to defend himself for the school, saying that he will not allow the federal government to control the views of students and teachers.
“It makes it clear that the intention is not to work with us to address anti -Semitism cooperatively and constructively,” Garber said in his statement. “Although some of the demands exposed by the Government aim to combat anti -Semitism, the majority represent the direct government regulation of” intellectual conditions “in Harvard.”
Harvard’s lawyers added that the school is “committed to fighting anti -Semitism and other format forms in its community”, but Trump’s policies “invade university freedoms recognized by the Supreme Court.”
“The terms of the Government also prevent Harvard’s legal rights, requiring non -supported and disruptive remedies for alleged damage that the Government has not shown through compulsory processes established by Congress and required by law,” said lawyers, according to NBC News.
