netflixthe latest black comedy from No good deed, it goes to show that you never really know what goes on behind closed doors.
The series finale leaves viewers looking at Lydia and Paul Morgan, portrayed by Lisa Kudrow and Ray Romano, discovering the truth about the murder of his son Jacob (Wyatt Aubrey) while still trying to sell his house of lies.
Throughout the series, we see Lydia and Paul deal with the loss of their son and the mysterious circumstances surrounding his death.
The truth about Jacob’s death
The biggest surprise is learning that Jacob was not shot by his sister Emily (Chloe East), as initially believed. A series of flashbacks and retracing their steps induced by the unwanted return of Paul’s brother, Mikey (Denis Leary), reveals that the real culprit behind his death was the Morgans’ neighbor, Margo Starling (Linda Cardellini). Margo was the object of Jacob’s teenage lust and had been breaking into houses in his neighborhood and giving him items, hinting at a possible romantic relationship between the two.
The night everything went wrong, Jacob broke into Margo’s house, which she shared with her B-list celebrity husband JD (Luke Wilson), to retrieve the stolen items she had given him. Scorned by his older love interest, Jacob threatened to expose his relationship with JD and ran away from home.
Margo chased Jacob down the street to the Morgans’ house, and as he tried to enter, she shot him in the back. At the same time, his sister assumed he was the thief who had been hitting the neighborhood and at the same time fired the family gun. Unbeknownst to the family that it was Margo’s bullet that took Jacob’s life, they had let the secret tear their family apart since that night.
How Margo got undone
After viewers learn Margo’s true nature, she transforms from the Gucci-wearing, gold-digging neighbor into a murderous villain. After the Morgans discover the truth about Jacob’s death, Lydia confronts her neighbor and leaves her for dead.
As Margo assumes her night will end with a relaxing bath, her house bursts into flames, and viewers believe that this is the end of Margo and her delicate fashion choices.
What’s wrong with Margo?
Fast forward: Margo is sitting at the bar and half her face is burned, presumably from the house fire. When a handsome young man sits down next to her and asks her name, she assumes she’s met her new suitor. However, she soon realizes that it is a police officer, who is Mikey’s son, Nate (Kelvin Alves), there to arrest her.
Who bought the Morgan house?
In the end, all the couples interested in buying Morgan’s house got what they wanted. Leslie Fisher (Abbi Jacobson) and Sarah Weber (Poppy Liu) won the Morgan house’s grand prize. After Sarah learns about the space, they settle in and prepare to take care of their baby and Lydia’s fruit tree. Dennis Sampson (OT Fagbenle) and Carla Owens (Teyonah Parris) don’t want any of the bad juju associated with the beautiful Los Feliz home, so they backed out of the deal.
However, with the vacant lot left over from Margo and JD’s house burning down, they were able to build from the ground up and include enough space for Dennis’ overbearing mother Denise (Anna Maria Horsford) and her newborn son . And with the $5 million check from Carla’s estranged father that Dennis cashed, passing it off as an advance check from his book, it looks like his foundation is off to a great start.
No good deed it’s a rollercoaster ride of dark humor, unexceptional twists and unexpected healings. Viewers watch as a family discovers the dirt they swept under the rug and reunites, and watch as couples learn that no matter how big and extravagant your house is if it’s full of lies, you’ll never know peace.
