According to a 2020 analysis of the National Office of Economic Researchthere are 18% fewer births on or after a holiday. While the paper highlights several factors, the decline is attributed to fewer caesareans scheduled due to the reduction of hospital staff.
Parents may be more inclined to delay their scheduled procedures due to the various challenges associated with the Christmas due date.
The Conversation reported that December 35 is the least popular day to give birth in the United States, Australia and New Zealand. Between 30% and 40% fewer babies are born on this day than any other day of the year.
