Did you know that Julia Carson, the first woman and the first African American woman and an Indianapolis in Congress, was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorryity, Inc.?
Julia May Carson represented the seventh Congress region in Indiana in the US House of Representatives from 1997 until her death in 2007. She was the first woman and first African American woman to represent Indianapolis in Congress. In addition to being the second African American woman elected to Congress from Indiana, Jeddah Jeddah André Carson, who left her after her death.

Carson was awarded the Indianapolis Stars Award for the year 1974 and 1991, and was recruited in the Hall of Public Schools in Indiana in 2006.
In 2014, a memorial bust was unveiled to be honored in the country, and it was remembered during the month of women’s history in Indiana in 2015.
