In an attempt to shed light on people who lead colleges and universities throughout the country, we arrived in the arena to the Faculty of Law at the University of Howard and interviewed Jaden Cody, President of the Student Government Association 2024-2025.
The position of SGA president is a great respect, and there is a special pride in their election by their peers to lead. Jaden Cody, 3L at Law College, from Atlanta, Georgia, is a pride in the spring of 2024 from Alpha Phi Alpha.
We met Jaden Cody and talked to him about his position, goals and future and what it means to occupy this type of leadership in 2024-2025.

What is the biggest thing you learned as SGA president so far?
This year has taught me so far, but at the top of that list, I certainly decided the battles that I can and I will give 100 % of myself and what battles should be ready to allow another person to fight or just float. As a president, there are things that students, faculty, employees, and panels attend are all priorities for them, but as a person who is asked to solve these problems or the hero of these reasons for others, you have to decide what you will take and how much you are ready to take them.
What made you decide to join Morehaus College for university students and then the Faculty of Law at the University of Howard?
I decided to attend the Morehaus College of a list of reasons, but a president among them, like many holy feeling of feeling happy at home when she entered the campus for the first time. To obtain my certificate in the law, I decided to go to the Faculty of Law at the University of Howard for a completely different reason. When I was in the last round of decisions that chose between the Faculty of Law at Howard University and George Washington University, my final decision came to where I wanted to learn the law. I started thinking about how to tell things like criminal law, constitutional law and the lens through which I wanted my professors and I hope that my colleagues will study and look at it – then the choice became easy.
How did the Faculty of Law at the University of Howard formed the person you are today?
The Faculty of Law at the University of Howard has changed my approach to the law and what I hope will be my role in the legal field. The presence of a wonderful mind institution and history such as Judge Thorgud Marshall, Charlotte E Rai, and AG Letia James, I don’t only learn the law, but I am preparing to be worthy of joining the ranks of the graduates who went to a revolution in many ways that people approach the law.
What are the specific initiatives that you went to this year (or planning), and how do you think it will improve the school and the surrounding community?
During the fall, our software focus was voting rights and election protection. Throughout the semester and led to the elections, we hosted many voters ’registration events both registration of people in society to vote in the capital, as well as planning events, and help students outside the state to develop plans to vote either to vote personally or request absent polling. In addition in the fall, we sent more than 100 students across the country to participate in the education of voters and protect voters in the previous week and the general election week. Our students traveled to Georgia, Texas, North Carolina, Verginia, Maryland, DC and Pennsylvania and participated in the work necessary to help secure our basic rights.
Although many of our students and members of society wanted a different result in the elections, our student volunteers have informed that they have not only enjoyed their time on the ground in working with lawyers, but they estimated that they obtain rights for people who did not always believe in what they believe in. For law students, our responsibilities as practitioners to adhere to the law instead of choosing whenever we wish and when we do not do so.
How does your SGA management/school currently attend the mental health of students?
In this semester, given the country’s climate, specifically for black and brown people, we plan for more events that focus on joy and student experience. We want to create a space for our students to create a community within the institution and have a safe space for the experience of joy. In addition, we were working with our university counterparts to pay and provide more mental health resources and its students.
What does driving mean to you?
She grew up in the south and in the Christian Church, learning whether the great leadership is formally or indirectly a necessary tenant for a great life. What about you and those who lead it and will directly affect your life. So the leadership for me is very important and means the difference between living a life I will return to it happily and that my family will benefit from it in the end and the inability to do these things. As a leader of myself, this is one of the lenses through which I look at my position, the presence of this vision means that as long as I work as a leader and in this position, I must make sure that I deserve to follow.
We are now living in a digital world, what do you think of schools that you should do to represent themselves online in 2025?
Schools have to give priority to their voice and put it in the digital space, specifically, this is an opportunity for them to reach the black and brown students who may have in the past able to say, I have never heard of going to Howard or going to Morehouse until the first year of high school. Now given the breathing of platforms and opportunities by creating content, HBCUS can access more people and can see more people with amazing things that occur in our sanctuary. So I think HBCUS and all schools should focus on their communication strategy on social creators and content content and use it as a way to expand our influence and reach it.
Why do you think watching the courtyard is important for black students and the culture of the kidney?
Watch When many other ports use HBCU culture, Greek culture and black culture as a way to obtain views and share negative things only related to those spaces, you see the annihilation constantly to share and positive the platform, light and do so very well.
What do you plan to do after graduation?
After graduation in May, I plan to sit in the bar in New York and after passing it (the first time) and planned to work and start my career in New York.
