Lencia Kebede became the first black actor to assume the role of Evphaba in Broadway, “Baders” in Broadway on Broadway this week.

“It’s hard to determine a single feeling because I feel it changed like every five minutes,” he said. “I woke up and still feel in the world of Oz.”

The first generation from Los Angeles Ethiopia American Kebede, recently held a five-year trip with the latest in Angelica Schuyler. The “bad” on Tuesday has noted his Broadway debt.

“Gravity”

Kebede went through an emotional palace until the curtain finally descended. ACT 1 Showstopper “Attraction”, shooting in the air and passing through it.

“When the lights go on the end of the song, I started to cry. It’s not just like a thin tear. The visitor said,” he says.

“I really felt I was flew, it’s the simplest way to put it. I felt like I did myself, although my own strength, my emotional strength and all my African ancestors.”

“If I’m Solo / At least I’m flying free, I get a message for those who put me in the ground,” How do I say weight, “he said.

“Everyone deserves the chance to fly,” said Kebede. “You deserve to be freedom, as if you are, as if you come to the message, no matter who you are.

Thankfully, there was a break. “It was necessary to meet me again,” he laughs. “It was like my makeup artist, ‘just let go, just cry, then we can clean.” “

Who was watching Kebede’s ‘bad’ debut?

The audience was the director of 60 family and friends, mother and aunt, aunt, his uncles, lover, his agent, and other shows, his agent and casting directors.

“The whole family was in the audience – anyone who I love me, everyone who loves me, and everyone who supported me with my life,” he says me and holds me up.

“It was so important to me for me to have those who can share this moment at the moment, so I could have said to their faces,” I could not be here without the part of your heart you give me. “”

A brother of Elpha

The popularity of the Cynthia Erivo-LED film was not moistened in the appetite for the Broadway version opened by Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman in 2003. Noting the highest weekly gross rude in history for any Broadway show, more than $ 9 million, nine days in history.

Kebede, Saycon Sengbloh and Lilli Cooper, Both Broadway Standby, and a list containing a list of Lilli Cooper, attended a brother of green-clad black women. Brandi Chavonne Massey, Broadway Advertising; and Alexia Khadime, the end of a full western west Elphaba.

Others playing a role in years, Stephana Bean, Stephana J. Block, Jessica Vosk, Eden espinosa, Mother Gasteyer and, of course, a Tony Award in 2004 Idina Menzel.

A Career Takes Shift

Kebede graduated from a double college in 2016, which intends to build a career in diplomacy and world affairs and policy, law or state policy. By a great year, there was a coach to scratch it.

“I just had this creative request in terms of sensitivity to this creative logic,” he says. “So I lowered my mother and I looked like it,” I look for a few years to explore these creative efforts. “”

His first professional work was the production of Memphis at the Tokyo Disney in Tokyo Disney, then in Tokyo Disney and “Memphis” on a walk on “Rent”. In addition to the years on the road with Hamilton, Kebede also spoke back to Beyoncé during Coachella training.

“Serious nature of walking round, I think he has prepared me a lot.” “I feel very equipped – physical, sound, emotionally.

A magical night

On the debut night, Kebede tried to keep a set of mental screenshots, faces and feelings. He felt love to turn back to return.

“My grandmother and my father passed when I was in high school and we took a moment to get in touch with my angels,” he says. “It was God, it was electricity.”

Family came to the back after the show for photo and a tour, blushed a nearby bar, finally ate something and then went home to try to sleep.

“My battery died. I wouldn’t want to say, I couldn’t even move. I couldn’t move my face. I just drank tea for soothing jazz.”

And then he had to do it again the next day.
