On Tuesday, the newly elected President Donald Trump shocked the country again with one of his next appointments. He officially appointed former NFL star Herschel Walker as the US ambassador to the Bahamas. Walker ran for the Georgia Senate in 2022 and lost to Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock.
Trump informed about this on his “Truth Social” social network.
“I am pleased to nominate Herschel Walker for the post of US Ambassador to the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. For decades, Hershel has served as an ambassador for our nation’s youth, our men and women in the military, and athletes both at home and abroad.”
Trump also called Walker a “successful businessman, philanthropist … and great in the NFL.” “Congratulations Hershel!” he shouted.
“You will make Georgia and all our people proud because we know you will always put AMERICA FIRST!”
Walker campaigned with Trump during the 2024 presidential race, and as president-elect, he has a controversial past, including lying about his education and paying for a woman’s abortion despite being a vocal anti-abortion candidate.
Black people didn’t forget it either, and took to X/Twitter to voice their opinions. One user, @Fly_Sistah, let Walker get it. “Herschel Walker, violent, serial liar, deadbeat dad, probably brain damaged because of Newt Gingrich, hasn’t seen his youngest son since 2016, and hasn’t raised any of his 4 kids with 4 mothers, nominated for ambassador to the Bahamas by Trump” , he said.
Another personality, @okaywayment, gave a more succinct assessment of Trump’s choice. He agreed that the choice was ridiculous, but was bolder in his choice of words. “This shit is a joke! How did Herschel Walker end up as US Ambassador?!!!” – he asked. “Donald is out of control maooooo.”
Walker previously served in a junior health care role in the first Trump administration. It’s also the latest example of how Trump rewards his loyalist — no matter how incompetent — with government positions. Name calling was not off the table for @sloyorol01973.
“Dummy who picked Herschel Walker as US ambassador to the Bahamas” before posting a meme that got Bahamians laughing.
Walker has a history of mispronouncing names, pretending to be a police officer, and referring to werewolves and vampires during past campaign speeches. Like other users on X, actor and comedian @SuliMcCullough questioned Walker’s intelligence.
“I guess Herschel Walker thinks he’s the Banana Ambulance…not the ambassador to the Bahamas!” he wrote. Walker still has to be confirmed by the Senate to take the role.
