Google provided a grant for support artificial intelligence study at an HBCU.
The nation’s first HBCU AI Institute is coming to NC Central University. CBS17 reports The Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Equality Studies will be opened at the university. The founding institute aims to explore the intersection of artificial intelligence and social justice, focusing on addressing systemic inequities and promoting innovation through the lens of inclusion and diversity.
“Our goal is to innovate and inspire and shape the next generation of leaders in artificial intelligence,” said NCCU Chancellor Karrie Dixon, according to CBS 17.
The Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Wealth Research is expected to be completed in 2025 and has also received a $1 million grant from the US. google, which does is supported by a wider $2 million commitment invest in upcoming schools North Carolina.
“This institute will help students understand the skills in demand, conduct in-depth research, work with the local community and beyond, and ensure that we act responsibly and boldly with the skills in demand at this unprecedented scale,” explains Google Global Officer Melonie Parker. Chief Diversity, Effectiveness and Inclusion Officer as per CBS 17.
Dixon explained:
“This partnership will equip our students with the tools and knowledge to lead the field of artificial intelligence while developing technologies that benefit society big. Through partnerships with corporations, local community colleges and universities, and the Research Triangle Park network, the institute will serve as a hub for workforce development, research and innovation, empowering students to lead one of the most impactful fields of our time, and AI is a force for good in the world.”
