Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry has appointed Caddo Parish Sheriff Henry Whitehorn Sr. to the Southern University System Board of Supervisors. The announcement is a notable achievement for Whitehorn, who will make history as Caddo Parish’s first Black sheriff when he takes office in 2023.
The Southern University SystemEncompassing campuses in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and Shreveport, as well as a law school and an agricultural research center, the nation’s only historically Black college and university system, Welcomed Whitehorn along with five other newly appointed members.
Governor Landry emphasized the valuable experience and leadership qualities these individuals bring to the board, saying, “These individuals have the background and leadership necessary to help this board succeed. I look forward to the leadership they will provide as we continue our mission to reform Louisiana’s education system.”
Whitehorn’s distinguished career includes roles as U.S. Marshal, Shreveport Police Chief, Shreveport Chief Administrative Officer and Louisiana State Police Chief. He is a proud graduate of Grambling State University and LSU-Shreveport.
In addition to Whitehorn, the new board appointments include St. Tammany Corp. CEO Chris Masingill; Quincy Cawthorne, a Lafayette-based attorney originally from Shreveport; Reggie Abraham, Southern graduate and operations supervisor at ExxonMobil Chemical Co.; Donald Ray Henry, Southern graduate and executive director of the Lafourche Basin Conservation Levee and Drainage District; and Domoine D. Rutledge, partner and general counsel at CSRS in Baton Rouge, also holds degrees from Southern University and Southern University Law Center.
This diverse group of leaders is committed to supporting the Southern University System in advancing its mission and enhancing educational opportunities in the state of Louisiana.
