The Kentucky State Thorobreds’ SIAC championship game odds remain alive for another week, After a 43-28 win over the Clark Atlanta Panthers.
With the win, they improved their record to 7–2 on the year, the first winning season for head coach Felton Huggins and the most wins for the team since 2021.
In the second game for Torrumia, Bardell gave Thorobreds’ Quarterback Denim Johnson 392 passing yards on 76% completion and five touchdowns without an interception.
His top target, Darius Kipri, had six passes for 254 yards and three touchdowns. Jon McCall followed with four receptions for 99 yards and two touchdowns.
Clark Atlanta Quarterback Xzavier Jackson had a career day, throwing for 425 yards completing 32-49 passes and four touchdowns.
Armon Harris received all of the touchdowns receiving touchdowns on 15 receptions for 225 yards.
After being forced to punt on each of their first two offensive drives, the Thorobreds would get touchdowns on their next five offensive drives to build a 36-10 lead in the third quarter.
That included two-play one-touchDown drives, both coming from Johnson to Kipri to Kipri to Krip to Krip to Krip to Krip.
Clark Atlanta cut to a pair of touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters, despite having a two-point conversion each time to make it 36-22.
However, Kentucky State would put the touchdowns of the game on a third and final touchdown connection from Johnson to Kipri.
Kentucky State will now enter the final weekend of the regular season needing a win and a bowl in the hunt for a SIAC championship berth.
If it beats Kentucky State and Benedict loses to Savannah State, the Thorobreds will advance to face Albany State in the title game.
Benedict needs just one win to eliminate them from championship contention against Savannah State.
