The Virginia State Trojans announced their possession agreed to a five-year contract extension for head football coach Dr. Henry Frazier III.
Dr. Frazier was recruited to Virginia State in 2022, returning to the CIAA after previously serving on Bowie State’s coaching staff from 2017-2020.
In his three seasons as Virginia State’s head coach, Dr. Frazier led the Trojans to a 21-10 overall record, including a 17-6 record in conference play.
The Trojans have improved their record each year in conference competition. This resulted in a 6-1 record this season, enabling them advanced to its first CIAA championship game since 2017.
This is Dr. Marks Frazier’s second CIAA championship appearance as head coach, having previously led Bowie State to the conference title game in 2002.
Since his hiring, Virginia State has been one of four Division II HBCU football teams to finish above .500 with an overall record in each of the past three seasons (Albany State, Fort Valley State and Virginia Union).
Dr. Frazier is two wins shy of 100 career victories with an overall record of 98-78.
