TC Taylor froze in time as Jackson State wrapped up the program’s third SWAC championship in the last four seasons.
The second-year JSU coach said he was standing at the 40-yard line, soaking it all in late in the fourth quarter. The Tigers are coming off a 41-13 win over Southern.
“I couldn’t move” Taylor said in the postgame press conference. I just thought at that point, ‘Wow, we’re the SWAC champions.’
Taylor couldn’t help but reflect on his personal football journey from All-SWAC wide receiver at JSU to assistant coach at his alma mater before becoming the head coach leading the program to a conference title in a city dear to his heart.
“It still hasn’t hit me,” he said. “I’m still taking it all in. This is a blessing.
Taylor considered hiring his staff to help rebuild Jackson County. On Saturday, all the various contributions were evident in the win over South that helped JSU win another SWAC title.
“Once I took that deal, the closet was bare,” Taylor said. This is something we built. I have nice guys around me. Its construction was a process.”
