Chris Paul gives a definitive answer on retirement

Chris Paul is about to turn 39 and the Golden State Warriors season is over. So the question as to whether or not he’s thinking about retiring is a natural one.

And the answer from him is a definitive one.

“That isn’t even in question,” Paul said after the Warriors lost to the Sacramento Kings in the play-in tournament. “I just want to get back to playing.”

Chris Paul averaged 9.2 points, 6.8 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 26.4 minutes this season, his first with the Warriors. Paul spent the previous three seasons with the Phoenix Suns after a stint with the Houston Rockets.

Chris Paul just completed his 19th NBA season and says that he’s preparing for more basketball.

The Winston-Salem State University graduate spent this season as a backup, a first for him in his 19-year career. He got the chance to play with Steph Curry, a long-time adversary on the court, but a friend off of it.

“He’s a professional who just goes about everything the right way,” Curry told Andscape. “He’s a hoop head that is always fun to play with. You can always talk basketball and figure it out. I appreciated playing against him in his prime. I always loved being in the same locker room [as him] because I was built like that.

“As a friend, he’s been my guy from day one. We had a little enemy situation. Just understanding how he approaches everything. He was fun to play with all year long.”
