The head of a group bringing positive change to Wilmington was recognized Tuesday during Black History Month at Delaware Technical Community College in Wilmington.
Logan Herring is CEO of the WRK Group which includes REACH Riverside, The Warehouse and Kingswood Community Center. Herring was raised in the city, and joins a list of distinguished individuals who have been recognized during Black History Month at DTCC in the past two-and-a-half decades.
Students, elected officials and members of the community celebrated with Herring. New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer proclaimed it Logan Herring Day.
Herring said he was hopeful that he, his team and future leaders can create their own history and bring about more change.
“The wealth gap hasn’t changed. It’s actually gone the opposite direction,” Herring said. “We have a lot of work to do and right now at the pace that we’re going, we’re not going to catch up. We need to give more people an opportunity to contribute.”
“The work I do is the work I wake up every day with a burning desire to improve the world, starting with one community.”
Herring has a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management from Goucher College and a certificate in Non-Profit Leadership from Boston College. He is on the Board of Governors for the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce, on the Longwood Gardens IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility) Committee, and the Advancement Committee of Sanford School.
“The College selects individuals who have made significant contributions to the community and have made an impact on improving the quality of life throughout the State. We are so proud to be recognizing Logan Herring as this year’s honoree,” DTCC Wilmington Campus Director and vice president Dr. Lora Johnson said.
