“People feel much more comfortable talking to people who are like them when it comes to health,” he said. “And what we see are many doctors, in fact, we thank us, because we give them information that they may not be able to reach the patient.”
According to Virginia’s Health Department, Virginia’s black women are more than twice as likely to die from causes of pregnancy compared to white women. Deficiency is a wider national trend in which black women are significantly higher maternal mortality rates. VUU’s Doula program is aimed at expanding competent cultural care and reduce this alarm statistics.
