RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – As of Sunday morning, the South Rockerville Fire is reportedly within containment lines.

“Pennington County Fire Service is thankful for all agencies who assisted with the South Rockerville Fire. We continue to ask the community to avoid the area today so firefighters can ensure the fire remains contained. **REMEMBER: Conditions are dry and windy, an ember can quickly turn.”
Previous Update”
As of 6:30 p.m. all “go now” evacuations due to the South Rockerville wildfire have been lifted. People who live on Granite Point Court and Metz Road may return to their homes. That is from the Pennington County Emergency Management.
South Rockerville Road closure remains in effect.
The fire is now estimated to be at 39 acres. No estimate of containment has been posted.

A significant wildfire erupted Saturday around 3 p.m. east of Keystone and south of Rockerville.
The Rockerville Road Fire is threatening a cluster of homes near the intersection of Rockerville Road and South Dakota Highway 40. Evacuation orders are in place for those living on Granite Point Court and Metz Road.

This fire is moving quickly and burning intensely. Those trapped by it could be seriously injured or killed.
The fire is estimated to be about three to five acres and under initial attack. As of this post, there were several Forest Service and state of South Dakota engines on the fire; as well as Black Hats and dozers.
