President Donald Trump is addressed to the Smithsonian Institution As part of his latest effort to dismantle outstanding resources for the arts with Vice President JD Vance, directing efforts. According to CnnTrump on Thursday signed an executive order to reduce the financing of the Smithsonian. The executive order states that the Government will cease to finance “exposure or programs that degrade the North -American shared values, divide the North -Americans based on the race or promote incoherent programs or ideologies with the federal law and policy,” according to CNN.
“Once widely respected as a symbol of American excellence and a world icon of cultural achievements, the Smithsonian institution has, in recent years, been the influence of a divisive and race-centered ideology,” says CNN. “This change has promoted narratives that represent north -American and western values as inherently harmful and oppressive.”
Why is the Smithsonian institution important?
The Smithsonian Institution, which has 21 museums and the National Zoo, is the largest museum complex in the world. About 17 million people visited the famous place by 2024, on the Museum’s website. Trump specifically mentioned the National Museum of African American History and Culture and the Smithsonian American Art Museum, as it aims to eliminate historical resources. When Trump visited the museum in 2017 shortly after its opening, he promised to unite a “divided country”, as well as to do his best to “continue this promise of freedom for African Americans and for all North -Americans”.
What are the orders Trump signed to reduce the expense in arts?
Trump’s last executive order comes after he signed another order in February 2025 to guide the John F. Kennedy Center for the performing arts. The President dismantled the Board of Trustees and promised to eliminate drag shows and other programs that do not support the institution. Trump has signed an order against the institution of museum and library services, as well as other government entities.
