
A man has been arrested and accused of murder after he allegedly fired fatally on his girlfriend, a 21 -year -old student Alabama State University. The application of the law calls it a Domestic violence Incident. Currently, Rogers McCloud Jr., 20, remains without a link to the Montgomery County detention installation in Alabama.
McCloud was arrested after allegedly firing Gennia Grimes on March 27. Police responded to a call from a person who was shot in the 80’s in the east in the Pike Road Waugh Community in Montgomery, according to The Montgomery ADVERTISER. Grimes was taken to the hospital in critical condition and died from his injuries.
What happened to Gennia Grimes?
“This case involves domestic violence where a young, innocent woman was killed at the hands of her boyfriend,” said Deputy Chief Wesley Richerson. “To protect the integrity of the case, we have not publicly discussed the details of this investigation. However, do not confuse our silence within the action. We have been carefully working to collect evidence and to determine the facts that surround Gennia’s death.”
On April 4, a mandate was issued for the arrest of McCloud after days of incident investigation. He was arrested on the same day and currently remains without a bond.
Who was Gennia Grimes?
Grimes was a senior student at Alabama State University, where he was a member of Honey Beez’s dance team. At the age of 21, he graduated in August 2025 and aspired to become a lawyer. Grimes was also the mother of a 9 -month -old young man, whom he shared with McCloud, said family members Fox 5.

Alabama State University published a statement in memory of Grimes.
“We are expanding our deepest condolences to his family, friends and all affected by his kindness and spirit,” the institution wrote, according to Enterprise Black. “Our thoughts and sentences are with their loved ones during this difficult time.”
