Black Dog Animal Hospital has once again been named the Red Wing Area Chamber of Commerce’s Specialty Services Business of the Year — an honor the veterinary clinic has earned multiple times since opening its doors in 2016.
“We are so honored and grateful to receive this award. Our team works very hard, so on behalf of everyone at Black Dog, thank you so very much,” said veterinarian and Founder Jennifer Scott.
According to Scott, this marks at least the seventh time Black Dog Animal Hospital has received the award, which is determined by community vote. The clinic displays each of its awards in the lobby of its Red Wing facility.
“It’s amazing,” Scott said. “We are so proud to be part of the Chamber of Commerce and have their support.”
Black Dog Animal Hospital provides care for dogs and cats at its location on Technology Drive in Red Wing, as well as a second site in Hastings. The small animal health care center offers a wide range of services, including wellness exams, dentistry, vaccinations, radiology, ultrasound, surgery and end-of-life care.
The clinic also brings in a board-certified veterinary surgeon when specialized procedures are needed.
“We provide general health care and wellness services, dentistry, as well as care for sick pets and end of life services,” Scott said. “We do vaccinations, preventative care, spay/neuter surgery, radiology and ultrasound services as well as specialty surgery through a traveling board certified veterinary surgeon when needed.”
Scott said the clinic’s success stems from the compassion and teamwork shown by staff.
“Honestly I think all the businesses in this category do an amazing job,” she said.
“I hope people see our compassion and love for animals and their people though, as well as how much we just enjoy working together as a team. I think people see and feel that when they come in to see us. Whether it is for a wellness visit, an unexpected emergency or illness or on their worst day, I hope people feel the love we have for each other and their pets.”
Beyond in-clinic care, Black Dog’s staff is active throughout the local community. Team members support a variety of causes and events, including 4-H, Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, the Goodhue County Fair, youth sports sponsorships and the River Bluff Humane Society.
“I believe we provide a valuable service to Red Wing by providing great veterinary care balanced with kindness and respect for every level of care we can provide to our community,” Scott said.
“We give our all to our community of clients and their pets while we are in the clinic. Outside of the clinic, each one of us supports our community in our own ways.”
In 2020, the business moved from its original Old West Main location to its current facility at 700 Technology Drive. The expanded space helped accommodate a growing client base, which in recent years has totaled tens of thousands of pet visits annually.
As Black Dog continues to grow, Scott said the clinic is exploring new ways to meet community needs — including the possible launch of a new urgent care service.
“We are currently evaluating the need for an urgent care in Red Wing and trying to figure out how to build an amazing team to make that happen,” she said. “Stay tuned!”
