HOWARD COUNTY, MD — The holiday shopping season kicks off this week when Black Friday arrives and retailers offer a variety of deals and specials.

The Mall in Columbia will be closed Thanksgiving day but opens Friday at 9 a.m. for Black Friday. The mall will be open Saturday 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Families can schedule Santa photos at the mall, as well as pet photos with Santa and breakfast with Santa.
Several retail chains are already offering door-buster deals and pricing, as Black Friday events are no longer limited to a single day in a retail world changed by online companies. Those can be found at Retail Me Not and Black Friday.
