SPOKANE, Wash. — According to a new study, the Spokane/Spokane Valley area ranks third in the United States in Black-owned businesses for every 1,000 Black or African American people in the area.
According to a study from Baldwin Digital, there are 12.46 Black-owned businesses for every 1,000 Black or African-American people in the Spokane/Spokane Valley area. In total, according to the study, there are 18,777 Black Spokane/Spokane Valley residents and 234 Black-owned businesses in the Spokane/Spokane Valley area.
According to the study, Bellingham, Washington, has 7.88 Black-owned businesses for every 1,000 Black or African-American people in the Bellingham area. In total, there are 4,570 Black people in Bellingham and 36 Black-owned businesses in the area, according to the study.
Corvallis, Oregon, leads the country with 42.68 Black-owned businesses for every 1,000 Black people in the Corvallis area. According to the study, there are 1,743 Black residents in Corvallis and 74 Black-owned businesses in the area.
Baldwin Digital took data from the 2021 U.S. Census on businesses owned by the Black or African American community and compared it to the Black population in each area to find these statistics.
