FLINT, Mich. — During the month of February, Flint Small Business Saturday hosts a a special Black History Month edition of the event to highlight the many locally black owned businesses within the city of Flint. Community members can support their local black owned businesses while also learning about what it takes to be a young black entrepreneur.
Ebonie Gipson, Hosting Founder of Flint Small Business Saturday, says hosting the event during Black History Month creates a space for black entrepreneurs to come and share their knowledge and skills with one another.
“A lot of businesses are serving or founded in underserved areas. They don’t always have equitable opportunities , and so it’s important to create a community platform where they can bring their businesses and their skill sets to one space,” said Gipson.
This special venue gives entrepreneurs like Elayshia Kendall and Laquendra Franklin, a mother-daughter businesses team, a chance to not only share their products but an opportunity to connect with other business owners and build resources.
Other entrepreneurs like Sparkle Rattler use small Business Saturday as an opportunity to share their experience of navigating the world of business as a black entrepreneur.
This special Black History Month edition of Small Business Saturday will be hosted on Saturday, Jan. 22, from Noon to 5 p.m. at the Word of Life Christian Church on W. Atherton Rd. in Flint.
