Ocean Star Seafood
Ocean Star Seafood Co. is planned for the former Black Bear Diner location, according to city permit applications.
The city issued a sign permit for Ocean Star on Aug. 29 for 1420 Market Place Drive.
The applicant is listed as Paradigm Restaurants, according to city staff.
The company’s registered agent is Hongyan Cai who has opened Hokkaido restaurants nationwide, including the Great Falls location.

Panda Express
Panda Express is holding a grand opening of its new location beginning at 9 a.m. Sept. 10 at 521 3rd St. S.W.
The new location will have standard Panda Express dishes, plus their newest entrée, Blazing Bourbon Chicken.
The new location features an updated store design known as Panda Home.
“The model incorporates design elements inspired by traditional Chinese architecture and traditions with modern motifs that tells the unique story of Panda Express. Panda recognizes consumer habits have changed over the last three years and to meet the needs of guests’ evolved lifestyles, the updated store design creates efficiencies for operators and diners to accommodate the increased demand for online ordering and drive-thru channels,” according to the company.

The Black Eagle Country Club is listed for sale for $2.29 million.

Chadwick mural dedication
The 30th anniversary of the line-of-duty death of Great Falls MT Police Department Senior Police Officer Shane Chadwick is Sept. 7.
Active and retired GFPD officers are hosting a dedication ceremony of a mural honoring Chadwick at 8 a.m. Sept. 7 in the alley behind 721 1st Ave. N.
The community is invited.
Chadwick was killed while investigating a noise complaint and was the last of five GFPD officers killed in the line of duty.
Great Falls Theatre Company
The Great Falls Theatre Company is hosting a season announcement party at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 13 at Haute Hive.
Attendees can visit with volunteers, actors, donors and board members. They’ll also have door prizes and raffles.

The Front Agency
Jen Barnett, a longtime Realtor and broker from Fairfield has launched The Front Agency.
The Front Agency is made up of seven women-Barnett, Mary Ann Hilyard, Deanna Rutten, Helen Music, Tasha Johnson, Sierra Johnson Waltari and Jennifer Gruber.
In addition to real estate, the women of The Front Agency are active members of their communities and give back in a variety of ways, from volunteering at local schools to pitching in at events. They are also the driving force behind the 1000 in Action Foundation.
C.M. Russell Museum
The C.M. Russell Museum is welcoming their new director, Chris Warden on Sept. 11.
The event includes:
- 5-6 p.m. meet and greet with Warden
- 6-7 p.m. cowboy music and authentic storytelling by Philip Page, a singer, songwriter, working cowboy and saddle maker from Dillon.
The museum is also hosting a continuation of National Good Neighbor Day at 6 p.m. Sept. 30.
Russell Museum raised $5.4 million during summer sale event [2023]
They’ll be discussing the book Behind Every Man: The Story of Nancy Cooper Russell by Joan Stauffer, and what it meant to be a good neighbor to both Nancy and Charlie.

Clearwater Credit Union has moved into space next to Fire Pizza on 5th Street North.
The credit union purchased the former downtown Hardee’s at the corner of Park Drive and 1st Avenue North. They’re planning to open a new branch at that location.

The History Museum vault
The History Museum opens its new research center to the public on Sept. 14.
The event begins with a ribbon cutting at noon followed by self-guided tours through 4 p.m. of the new research center.
Attendees will enjoy demonstrations of how artifacts, photographs, and documents are cataloged and preserved.
There will be a reception in the Ozark Room with light refreshments and live music.
The History Museum receives gift for remodel [2023]
Kristi Scott, museum director, will give a presentation on Child Artisans at the Fort Shaw Industrial School at 1 p.m. in the Ozark Room.
The research center “expands the museum’s capacity for researchers, adds a small classroom and allows for a much-needed update of an ADA compliant restroom to the second floor. Visible storage of artifacts and archival materials is a feature of the research center; restoration of an original 1929 windowed wall will allow visitors to view the museum behind the scenes through the Visible Vault. This expansion allows for additional climate controlled and secure storage to house important collections as they are offered to the Cascade County Historical Society/The History Museum for generations to come,” according to the museum.
The event is free and open to the public.

Paris Gibson Square Museum of Art is hosting Arts on Fire from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 14 with activities, pottery sale, music and dance performances, artist demonstrations, museum tours, scavenger hunt, food trucks, local artist market and more.
Cassiopeia Books
Cassiopeia Books is hosting an author event at 6 p.m. Sept. 19 with Christy Leskovar, author of East of the East Side, One Night in a Bad Inn and Finding the Bad Inn: Discovering my Family’s Hidden Past.
Leskovar will discuss her latest book, East of the East Side, a nonfiction account of her grandfather, a bassoonist who fled World War I Paris and made his way to Montana, first traveling with a silent movie orchestra, then on to the Butte Mines Band, and finally ending up on the Flathead Indian Reservation.
Arlyne Reichert celebration of life
Arlyne Reichert’s celebration of life is 1-3 p.m. Sept. 21 on the 10th Street bridge, which she worked for many years to save.
When Reichert died in May at the age of 98, the Great Falls Public Library posted that she was known as the “bridge lady” and a longtime supporter of the library.
Reichert was a personal friend of Alma Jacobs, who served as head librarian at the Great Falls Public Library and the state librarian, both historic firsts for a Black woman during her time.
Reichert also served on the library board, was involved in many community groups and was one of the founders of local public radio, according to her obituary.
She worked as a secretary at the McLaughlin Research Institute, retiring in 1988 as the institute’s assistant director.
In 1972, she was one of 100 elected delegates to rewrite Montana’s Constitution.
McLaughlin, Touro event
On Sept. 23, McLaughlin Research Institute and Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine are hosting an event to celebrate 70 years of biomedical research in Montana and renaming McLaughlin to The Weissman Hood Institute.
The name change honors Drs. Irving Weissman and Leroy Hood.
Both serve on the institute’s scientific advisory committee.
Weissman and his wife made a $5 million gift to the institute in 2021.
Touro welcomes first class of medical students [2023]
Weissman was the institute’s first high school intern and is now a professor at Stanford University’s Pathology Stem Cell Institute. He served as director of the Stanford Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine from 2003 to 2022.
Westport Moving Totes
Robyn Good has opened Westport Moving Totes in Great Falls.
The company rents totes/bins to people who are moving.
The business is online ordering only and she emphasizes that renting totes is an alternative to cardboard boxes, which may break down, and is more environmentally friendly, plus people don’t have to store them after a move.

The 341st Contracting Squadron at Malmstrom Air Force Base awarded a contract for the high temperature hot water repair requirements to Wadsworth Builders Company with an amount not to exceed $4,999,999.99 over a five-year ordering period.

Bloom and Bean said they’ve moved in but don’t have an opening date yet.
Benefis seeking volunteers
Benefis Peace Hospice is seeking volunteers.
The hospice is hosting a free, three-day training and orientation session 6-9 p.m. on Sept. 27 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 28-29 at the Peace Hospice conference room at 2600 15th Ave. S.
Attendance at every session is required. Potential volunteers must preregister by Sept. 19.
