ALLENDALE, MI – A Rhode Island group has filed a federal civil-rights complaint against Grand Valley State University, alleging the university has engaged in “illegal race discrimination” by using race, color and/or national origin as a qualifier for 11 scholarships.
The group, called the Equal Protection Project (EPP), claims the public university’s scholarships are in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, which prohibits racial discrimination in programs that receive federal financial assistance.
