Crockett condemned the act because it perpetuates a pattern of violence against politicians.
Rep. Jasmine Crockett is reportedly being threatened and harassed by a white supremacist.
Crockett issued a statement about the incident in which a man showed up at his office in Washington, D.C., raising concerns about his safety and that of his employees. Crockett has been the target of alleged white supremacist threats for his public disapproval and condemnation of the Trump administration and its policies.
“A person showed up in my DC office today making white supremacist threats and hand gestures. Everyone is safe and I want to thank the Capitol Police for their quick response,” he said on Nov. 20 when reports Newsweek.
However, the incident is part of a growing pattern of violence against politicians and lawmakers in the country. Crockett noted how the normalization of this violence threatens the safety of individuals and officials representing citizens. This has become especially relevant since the murders of Charlie Kirk and Minnesota State Legislator Melissa Hortman and her husband.
In particular, Crockett singled out the president for his role in fueling this hate speech. Some of his followers have used posts about his critics to incite violence against them. Crockett has been a vocal opponent of Trump throughout both of their political careers, as well as with Trump verbally assaulted Democratic congressman.
In September, he said he and fellow US Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar have “low IQs.” Trump recently took to Truth Social, his preferred conservative social media platform, to highlight how the “rebellious behavior” of some Democratic lawmakers is “punishable by death.”
He also reposted posts that openly encouraged the “hanging” of these left-wing officials. Amid calls to expunge Trump’s memos and condemn abuse of officials, Democratic leaders have also stepped up measures for security at Capitol offices and greater police vigilance.
Crockett, a black woman representative, emphasized the growing fears for her safety as white supremacy continues to run unchecked and likely reinforced by the commander-in-chief. The incident at his DC office is still under investigation.
