Pam Oliver has been on the NFL sideline for years as a reporter, and last Tuesday the Florida A&M graduate added another honor to her endless list of accolades.
Oliver, 1984 FAMU graduate, was Inducted into the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Famepart of a class that included the recently retired Lee Corso and the late Greg Gumbel.
He is recognized as the longest-tenured NFL sideline reporter covering more than 500 games during his 30-year career at Fox Sports.
In announcing his induction, the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame said, “Widely respected and admired in the industry, his down-to-earth and candid interview style consistently delivers timely and insightful reporting.”
“I still can’t believe it; my feet haven’t hit the floor,” Oliver said Saturday during Fox’s NFL pregame show. “I owe Fox a huge debt of gratitude for allowing me to grow and flourish, which is why I’m in the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame. I never thought I’d be saying these words, but I’m glad I did.”
Oliver graduated from Florida A&M’s renowned journalism school, earning NCAA and Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) All-American honors in the 400 meters and the mile relay.
He joined Fox Sports as a sideline reporter in 1995 and also held a similar NBA position on TNT until 2009.
Oliver is a member of the Florida A&M athletics hall of fame, the Florida Sports Hall of Fame, and the National Association of Black Journalists Hall of Fame.
