Down by six with two minutes to play, the Spartans stormed back with a final 8-2 run — defined by toughness, composure and timely shooting. Almost automatic all game, McComb shot 7-of-8, including 3-of-4 from deep, and calmly knocked down six from the lane to cap a dazzling performance.
Keyontae Lewis paced the offense with 18 points and five boards, while Elijah Jamison added another steady hand at the line on a sharp 6-of-16 shooting night.
Delaware State did not go quietly. Ponce James scored 22 points, five assists and four steals, keeping the Hornets in charge for most of the match.
Corey Perkins and Camian Shell added 12 and 11 points, respectively, to help the Hornets (5-12, 0-2 MEAC) stay in step until the final possession.
With the win, Norfolk State (7-11, 1-1 MEAC) evened conference play — and found a spark that could ignite their push on the Mideast Athletic Conference slate.
