A 23-year-old Maryend man was found dead while on vacation with his family in the Bahamas, police said Wednesday.
Dinari Mcalmont was found unresponsive on a beach on Paradise Island in Bowie, Maryland, on Saturday, according to a statement from the Royal Bahamas Police Force. A spokeswoman for a local resort, Atlantis Paradise Island Bahamas, confirmed Wednesday that one of its guests had died.
Police said a post-mortem examination indicated Mcalmont’s death was due to strangulation, adding that they “don’t know a suspect at this time.”
“Furthermore, police are still awaiting forensic toxicology analysis and the investigation is ongoing,” he said.
But his mother, Michelle McMont, 23, Eyewitness News explained the Bahamas On Tuesday, when authorities showed him his body, his son’s face was beaten.
“I need justice for my baby,” she said. “I need justice.”
Mcalmont’s family could not be reached for comment.
“Our thoughts and condolences are with the guest’s family and loved ones during this difficult time,” a spokeswoman for Atlantis Paradise Island said in a statement Wednesday.
Spokesmen added that the resort would not comment further pending a “final police report”.
In July, an American woman Taylor Caseywent missing on an island paradise while on a month-long yoga retreat. His whereabouts are still unknown.
