Paradise Island, Bahamas – A Bowie family searches for answers after their son dies during a family vacation at a popular resort in the Bahamas. Bahamian police now say the man drowned, but his family is deeply skeptical of the medical examiner’s findings.
The mother of 23-year-old Dinari Mcalmont was last seen as her son was found dead – just 12 hours after the family arrived at the Atlantis Paradise Bahamas resort in Nassau.
What they say:
Speaking to Eyewitness News Bahamas, Michelle McAlmont went to identify her child’s remains when her face was “traumatized” and she died.
He said the same thing in FOX 5’s exclusive interview with Shomari Stone Tuesday nightthe cause of death was announced.
“When I looked at the picture, they showed me, my son was beaten,” he said. “I need justice for my baby. I need justice.”
Now, Dianari’s parents are furious after hearing what police in the Bahamas say is “not a suspect at this time.”
Bahamian police said a “post-mortem examination has been carried out” and the pathologist’s findings revealed he had died in transport.
Michelle Mcalmont vehemently disagrees.
“There’s foul play,” he told Fox 5. “All the bruises and you can see somebody’s been abused and hit and that’s why I’m saying that.”
Backstory:
Dinari and her parents left their Bowie home on Friday for a family vacation to the Bahamas. They arrived at the Atlantis Paradise Bahamas resort in the evening and the family decided to explore the resort at 8:45 a.m. Dinari said.
Hours later, they say, employees asked about Dinari’s whereabouts. Dinari’s parents looked and said that the location service on her phone was inactive and that the location was indicated by the Bahamian police.
“The police said they were looking for him, apparently spitting on some employees at a restaurant,” said Michelle Mcalmont.
However, he says he cannot confirm this claim. She and her husband searched the resort and made a missing person slip. It is said that Dinari returned early on Saturday morning, where Dinari died, and remained on the private beach of the resort.
Fox 5 reached the Atlantis resort and replied: «It is with deep and heartfelt condolences on the passing of one of our guests. This is a difficult police investigation and we are cooperating fully.”
What’s next:
Bahamian police say they are awaiting forensic toxicology analysis and the death investigation will continue.
Dinari’s parents want police to release all surveillance video they believe may show what led to their son’s death.
“I would expect nothing less than a full and thorough investigation,” Michelle Mcalmont said.
The McAlmont family says they have hired a lawyer specializing in international relations.
