Filming for the movie is scheduled to start in the area next month and will include several locations in Danbury and New Haven. It is set to star two-time Oscar nominee Djimon Hounsou, whose credits include Gladiator and Amistad.
The state’s idyllic settings along with the availability of top-notch crew and talent and the state’s tax credit have made Connecticut an ideal location for shooting large productions, said Johnathan Black, a co-founder of Chair 10 Productions. The latest film will employ more than 150 people.
“We’re really excited to be bringing another large production into the state that will help to grow the local economy and benefit the local workforce,” Black said. “It’s part of our larger vision to continue to grow the industry in Connecticut and provide real benefits to the people who live and work here.”
The company is also launching a program in tandem with the movie called Veterans in Entertainment in Connecticut, that will aim to hire more local veterans on productions in the state.
“Monster” follows two millennials who make quick money by leasing New York City apartments they don’t own to people who don’t know they are being scammed, according to the Internet Movie Database. The con works until they run into an apartment owner with a dark secret who flips the game on them.
According to the IMDB, Bousman is a member of the unofficial “Splat Pack,” a term coined by film historian Alan Jones in “Total Film” magazine for the modern wave of directors making brutally violent horror films. The other “Splat Pack” members are Alexandre Aja, Neil Marshall, Adam Green, Greg McLean, Eli Roth, James Wan, Leigh Whannell and Rob Zombie.
