A highlight of this year’s event will be the Michigan Black Summit Gala, featuring a live performance from the iconic Midnight Star, the legendary R&B band behind hits like “No Parking (On the Dance Floor)” and “Freak-A-Zoid.” The gala, held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, will offer a unique blend of entertainment, networking, and celebration of Black excellence.
Trenton Bowens, Chair of the Michigan Black Summit, expressed excitement about the return of the summit and the opportunity to feature a band as renowned as Midnight Star. “This summit is about more than just gathering—it’s about galvanizing a movement,” Bowens said. “We are bringing together powerful voices, including those from the political, economic, and social sectors, to uplift our community. Having Midnight Star at the gala underscores our commitment to celebrating Black culture and joy while addressing serious issues.”
The two-day summit will include engaging workshops, panels, and keynote speakers covering topics such as:
• The Power of the Black Vote
• Economic Empowerment: Strengthening the Black Dollar
• Black Leadership in Times of Change
• Health and Wellness in the Black Community
• Youth Leadership and Mentorship
• Environmental Justice and Community Advocacy
These sessions are designed to educate and empower individuals, organizations, and leaders working towards racial equity and social justice in Michigan.
Tracy-Ann Cleveland Jennings, emphasized the importance of participation from a wide range of voices. “We want everyone to feel they have a seat at the table, whether they’re seasoned leaders or emerging voices. This summit is about forging connections and creating actionable change.”
In addition to learning and networking opportunities, the summit aims to spotlight the economic power of the Black community and the importance of voting in local, state, and national elections.
