TIGARD, Ore. (KATU) — The City of Tigard, in collaboration with The Practice Facility and the Equity Advisory Committee, is set to host a vibrant celebration for Black History Month.
The event, titled “Building the Future Together: Black History Month Celebration Market and Party,” will take place on Sunday, February 23, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at The Practice Facility, located at 14655 SW 72nd Ave, Tigard, OR 97224.
This year’s theme, “African Americans and Labor,” aims to highlight the significant contributions of Black individuals across various industries and throughout history. The celebration will feature music, food, art, and local entrepreneurship, showcasing Black excellence and resilience.
“We are Black History,” said Juma Blaq, the event coordinator.

Josiah Lake, owner of The Practice Facility, expressed his enthusiasm for the event. “As a black-owned and operated business in Tigard for over 10 years, it’s great to see the City of Tigard support Black History Month and shine the light on our culture in a positive way,” he said.
The event will include live music and performances, featuring a special performance by Cool Nutz, platinum award winner Jonny Cool, and music by DJ Jewler. Attendees can enjoy catering from Trap Kitchen and PlantboysPDX, along with engaging activities such as free haircuts and hair braiding.
Cameo Thomas, founder of elateyouth.org, will lead a women’s group, and local vendors like Chillin The Coyote, Portland Love Clothing, and Kickz Drippin Unlimited will offer their products. Inspiring speeches from community leaders will address the significance of Black labor and resilience.
The event underscores the pivotal role Black labor has played in shaping Oregon and the nation. From historical challenges to modern-day successes, Black workers, business owners, and community leaders have continuously contributed to the growth and prosperity of communities.
